Degreasing

Any material that is going to be treated superficially must be clean and free of dirt, particles, oils or any other element. In order to achieve this purpose, there are DEGREASE processes. There are several factors to take into consideration when choosing the degreasing process: the dirt, the material, the applied surface finish or the next step in the process. They are usually differentiated as acid, alkaline or inhibited alkaline formulations.

Desmutting

The process of desmutting or deoxidizing is referred to with various names, including neutralizing. This process eliminates the metals present in the surface that appeared during the preparation processes, while also adjusting the pH of the pieces to an appropriate level prior to the anodizing phase.

During the anodization process, a film of aluminium oxide is added to the surface. This artificial oxide layer provides various benefits, including protection against corrosion and the ability to apply colouring processes.

One of the best aesthetic properties of anodised aluminium is that it allows the colouring process. This process is possible via various methods: organic colouring, inorganic colouring, electrolytic colouring or interference colouring.

Organic and inorganic colouring allows a wider range of colours and hues that aesthetically enhance the finish of the pieces. Barcelonesa is the exclusive and official distributor for Omya and Clariant, leading companies with a long history of supplying high-quality colourants for the anodising industry. Sealing

Sealing is the process of closing the pores created during the anodising phase. Properly sealing the pores guarantees the adherence of the properties obtained throughout the entire process.

The different sealing processes can be differentiated by the temperatures employed: low, medium or high temperature.

CHEMICAL CONVERSION - Aluminium passivation

Conversion treatments are applied to improve the corrosion resistance of metal surfaces, as well as the adherence of subsequent organic coatings such as lacquers, varnishes or paints.

Chemical conversion is a treatment used for the formation of thin, non-decorative and electrically conductive layers on metal surfaces by incorporating chemical ions. This process is called passivation of aluminum.

Due to being official distributors in Spain of AD International products, we can offer you high quality technical products, especially those that are applied during the chemical conversion process.

Degreasing

This process is essential to clean the surface of all types of oils, paste or dirt. If cleaning is not carried out perfectly, there may be areas where the treatment will not work correctly. This results in stains, defects and corrosion after treatment.

Desmuting

This process is responsible for removing the smuts or metals that are on the surface after the cleaning process. It is usually called “activated” since we will leave the surface perfectly prepared for the conversion process. The treatment is not carried out correctly. This results in stains, defects and corrosion after treatment.

Aluminum Passivation

This process produces the transparent passive layer on the aluminum. Depending on the technical needs we have several options:

PreCoat A32 conversion coating uses a trivalent chromium base and provides excellent performance characteristics. This process produces the transparent passive layer on the aluminum. To improve the results in alloys rich in Cu (Series 2000 and 7000), the PreCoat A32 process must be combined with this product and use the A32 PostRinse in the lasts tage of the process. Advantages Precoat A32 and A32 PostRinse:
  • Based on trivalent chromium.
  • Not labeled according to CLP / GHS classification.
  • Provides an excellent corrosion barrier on different aluminum alloys tested by ASTM B-117.
  • Amply meets the adhesion and corrosion requirements of QUALICOAT, GSB and MIL-DTL 81706B and MIL-DTL 5541: Type II CL1A and CL3 specifications.
  • Suitable to be used as a seal after the anodizing process in preparation for painting or lacquering. > 336 hours of resistance in salt spray test.
  • It can be used as a final process after electropolishing and chemical brightening processes.
  • Applicable on different aluminum alloys by extrusion, rolling or casting
Completely chrome-free conversion coating to be used in the pre-treatment of aluminium alloys prior to the organic coating process by painting or lacquering. Precoat CR FREE Advantages:
  • The best chrome-free pre-treatment of aluminium.
  • Excellent adhesion, corrosion protection and cost-effective processing.
  • GSB and Qualicoat approved
  • Independently tested by IFO for 3000 hours AASS
Fully conversion coating used in the pre-treatment of aluminium alloys prior to the organic coating process by painting or lacquering. It is used to obtain a yellow conversion coating. No final rinsing is required. Precoat Color Advantages:
  • Chromium-free pre-treatment of aluminium.
  • Excellent adhesion, corrosion protection and cost effective process.
  • Qualicoat approved. IFO tested for 3000 hours AASS
  • It gives a yellow color to the substrate for easy visual quality control.

Lacquering Pretreatment

The most environmentally friendly products for surface preparation of aluminium substrates prior to powder coating. Pre-treatment is essential to improve adhesion and surface quality of the finished product.

Products can be applied in immersion, spray and cascade processes.

  • The CLEANER 502 process is based on a liquid product to simultaneously degrease and pickle aluminium substrates prior to applying a lacquer coating or paint finish.
  • The pickling process is adjusted by the addition of free fluorides.
  • The degreasing properties are supported by different active emulsifying systems that ensure thorough cleaning.
  • CLEANER 502 is suitable for immersion, spray or cascade processes.
  • PRECOAT CR FREE is used to obtain a clear, no-rinse conversion coating on aluminium panels and extrusions.
  • It is suitable for spray, dip and cascade processes.
  • It is QUALICOAT and GSB approved.
  • Provides good protection against filiform corrosion.
  • Provides excellent adhesion with organic coatings.
  • Chromium free product.

Strippers for paints, lacquers or powder coatings have always been based on solvents that are highly polluting and dangerous for our health.

Our strippers are classified as environmental friendly as they do not contain hydrocarbons or heavy metals.

During the aluminium treatment processes, waste is generated that must be treated by specialised companies and can also be recovered and reused in other industrial processes. Barcelonesa is an authorised waste manager E-1262.11 for the recovery of chemical products and we are also a transfer centre. We can collect and manage the waste from your facilities. We have our own transport company, authorised to transport T-3363 waste.
